The Prettiest Places in the World to Kiteboard
A refreshed shortlist of scenic kiteboarding destinations, with a practical framework for choosing a place that fits your riding and travel plans.
Last updated:
The prettiest kiteboarding destination is a personal choice. A dramatic coast, a mountain backdrop, or a quiet lagoon can make a trip memorable, but scenery alone does not establish whether a location suits your riding. Here are the places from our original shortlist, followed by the questions that help turn inspiration into a workable trip.
Island and lagoon inspiration
Maui, Hawaii: The north-shore setting and mountain backdrop make Maui a striking place to explore. Confirm the current launch areas and local requirements before deciding where to ride.
Boracay, Philippines: Bulabog Beach featured in our original list for its island setting. Check the conditions and local operating arrangements for your travel window rather than assuming a fixed season guarantees a suitable session.
Le Morne, Mauritius: The mountain and lagoon create a distinctive backdrop. Lagoon riding and outer-reef riding are separate decisions; ask a local instructor which area suits your ability.
Zanzibar, Tanzania: Paje’s coastal scenery appeals to riders and travelers. Ask about tide, water depth, access, and the session timing appropriate to your stay.
Aitutaki, Cook Islands: A lagoon landscape is part of its appeal. Remote-island travel makes confirmed transfers, equipment arrangements, and time between connections especially useful planning questions.
Coasts with a distinctive sense of place
Tarifa, Spain: The coast and historic town combine riding inspiration with time ashore. Strong-wind conditions should be matched to your experience, not treated as suitable for everyone.
El Gouna, Egypt: The Red Sea and desert setting offer a different kind of scenery. Confirm the chosen kite center’s access, lesson options, and current arrangements directly.
Cumbuco, Brazil: Coastal beaches and nearby lagoon stops featured in our Brazil guides. Read our Brazil riding-area overview before deciding whether a single base or a multi-stop route fits your group.
Cabarete, Dominican Republic: Beach life and a lively town are part of the attraction. Different riding areas have different water conditions; choose one through a local briefing rather than a general destination label.
Cape Town, South Africa: Table Mountain provides a memorable backdrop to the coastline. Ask about wind strength, surf, water temperature, and rider requirements before selecting a session. Explore our Cape Town destination page for trip inspiration.
Los Roques, Venezuela: The archipelago featured in our original scenic shortlist. Before planning travel, review current official travel advice and entry arrangements for your nationality; inclusion here is inspiration, not a statement that travel or a hosted departure is currently available.
How to choose your destination
Start with your riding ability, preferred water conditions, travel dates, and budget. Ask about lessons or guided support, designated launches, and how tide and weather affect the day. Allow for transfers and rest instead of filling every day with planned riding.
For international travel, confirm passport and entry requirements with the relevant official authorities, check current travel advice, and read your insurer’s terms for the activities you intend to do. Ask airlines about kite-bag size and weight before buying tickets.
Turn the shortlist into a trip inquiry
Browse our destination ideas and upcoming trips, then send your preferred dates, group size, and riding experience. Ask which destinations and arrangements are currently offered; this list does not advertise a departure to every location.
